						   Safety
						
							
							
						
						 TRANSPORTATION SAFETY:      
					Party chief or supervisor should ensure that all new drivers 
					are tested before they are permitted to drive a vehicle.
					 
					The following rules must be 
					strictly observed:-  
					1.     
					
					Always have and carry a valid driver's license. For the type 
					of vehicle you are operating and be sure that registration 
					and permit plates are Available for all official 
					inspections.  
					2.     
					The 
					use of seat belts by all occupants of the Cars, vans, and 
					heavy goods vehicles is Mandatory. 
					3.     
					All 
					employees must be properly seated or standing on a properly 
					constructed riding Platform when the vehicle is in motion 
					.Do not get on or off a vehicle while in motion.  
					4.     
					Do 
					not smoke during fueling operation. Each Fuel tank should be 
					clearly marked with" NO SMOKING" and the type of fuel must 
					be clearly identified near the fueling spot.  
					5.     
					No 
					one is permitted to work under a vehicle with the keys in 
					the ignition unless under the Direct supervision of the 
					mechanic.  
					6.     
					No 
					one should rest; sleep or other wise recline under a vehicle 
					at any time except while actually doing mechanical work. 
					Don't leave or store Equipment under parked vehicle. 
					 
					7.     
					The 
					driver must check that no equipment or people are in the 
					part or under the vehicle before starting or moving. 
					 
					8.     
					
					 Drivers should always stay within the posted speed Limits, 
					and obey every traffic sign & signal.  
					9.     
					All 
					vehicles should be fitted with the following -:  
						
						
						·     
						Fire 
					extinguisher. 
						
						·     
						First aid kit 
						
						
						·     
						Seat 
					belts on all seats. 
						
						·     
						Air 
					bags 
						
						·     
						Serviceable spare wheel. 
						
						
						·     
						Toolbox kit, jack & wheel nut spinner. 
						
						
						·     
						Survival kit (whenever necessary). 
						
						
						·     
						Hazardous warning device.
						
						·     
						Communication radios. 
						
						
						·     
						Compass and a map. 
						 
					10.Caution; after driving in water surface, brakes may 
					become wet and not effective. A apply foot on brake lightly for a short period to dry the 
					vehicle brakes.
 
					DESERT DRIVING  The 
					following characteristics affect transportation Operation in the desert-
					 
						
						
						·     
						Shortage of water & fuel. 
						
						
						·     
						Areas impassable to wheeled vehicles. 
						
						
						·     
						Scarcity of reliable landmarks. 
						
						
						·     
						Extreme climate conditions with accompanying Health & safety 
					hazards.  In 
					such cases vehicles should be equipped with  
						
						
						·     
						Cooling water radiator overflow system. 
						
						
						·     
						Special sand tires. 
						
						
						·     
						Sand 
					mats, tow ropes, and shovels. 
						
						·     
						Additional water & fuel. 
						
						
						·     
						An 
					air pump to inflate tires. 
						
						·     
						Survival kits-; matches, blankets, signaling Mirrors, flash 
					lights etc. 
						
						·     
						Tools for emergency repairs. 
						
						
						·     
						A 
					map, compass & communication facilities. 
						
						·     
						Emergency rations. 
						 
					
					EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS
					 Special roles for crews 
					operating under extreme  Conditions of heat, cold or 
					dryness.  
						
						
						·     
						A 
					work plan, travel plan and expected time Of Return should be 
					filled before leaving camp. 
						
						·     
						Vehicles operating under these conditions must carry 
					emergency ration, water, radio and signal/ locating device. 
					In case they might become stranded. Personnel must stay with 
					their vehicles when any problem occurs.  Do not 
					attempt to leave location  
						
						
						·     
						Personnel must have sufficient clothing. 
						
						
						·     
						Sunglasses should be worn to reduce glare (snow, desert, 
					water). 
						
						·     
						Radios in vehicles and all operating location must be kept 
					in operating conditions. Base Radios should be monitored 
					during working Hours. 
						
						·     
						A 
					compass or direction finding should be in each independently 
					operating vehicle.  
					PRECAUTIONS IN DESERT & 
					SAND DUNES  
					1.     
					Use 
					a suitable tire pressure for the ground. Check all tires.
					 
					2.     
					They 
					will be flowing of vehicles along the line. (Take care on 
					the top of the tracks in the dunes) use the horn and a long 
					bar with a high black flag fixed 2 mtr over the roof of the 
					vehicle. 
					3.     
					
					 Always use the wooden base plate under the jack. 
					 
					4.     
					If 
					you get lost, NEVER leave your vehicle, even if you do not 
					have a radio contact with the base camp. A search will be 
					organized the same day. You can make signs with flares.
					 The

					in the desert-  
						N.B. All of the points must be adhered to, and will be 
					explained (detailed) in practical training and meetings
